Ah, this adventure sketch is of the time I tried ice skating! I had never done it before then, and it was totally awesome. Figaro and I along with a few other Punnies decided to venture out onto the frozen ice pond at the What Fields. We spent our whole afternoon skating or (for me) falling. Luckily, Figaro held my hand along the way and taught me to put one foot out after another to get into a sort of skating rhythm.
Mental note: Punnies are completely natural skaters, it seems. Hardly any of them fell down (including the baby cherry skating for the first time!). I, on the other hand, felt the coldness of the pond ice on my bottom one too many times, while Figaro skated past and did acrobatics like a perfect Olympian athlete. Well, even though I was discouraged at first, I wasn’t about to look entirely foolish in front of my friend! Suffice it to say, with Figaro’s help, I learned the art of skating on ice and before long I had the wind in my face and felt as though I was flying…but on the ground!
I guess Figaro was right all along. You cannot just keep looking down at your feet if you need to go somewhere. I knew somehow he would find a moral lesson to teach me, and he calls this one his Ice Skating Treasure. The amount of patience he has is astounding. He’s been waiting till the lake froze over since summer to teach me this lesson. Now that’s real patience!
P.S. Later, it turned out Figaro wasn’t the perfect ice skater after all. He did fall and crashed into me as I was drawing this sketch, which explains the rip. Nothing a little glue and a sticky note couldn’t fix though : )
