Ha ha ha! Yes, I definitely remember this one. This was the time when Beegen and I forgot to bring our formal attire to meet the monarchs of Grassy Windbet Hills at a super fancy Kimono Lantern celebration. But we weren’t completely without proper respects. We each brought them a gift wrapped in beautiful wrapping paper with floral petal designs and stripes. When it came time to the party, however, everyone had their beautiful dresses and garments to wear to the grand event. All I had on were my worn jeans and t-shirt (which I admittedly would have been completely happy to wear to any occasion if allowed but since I desperately wanted to attend this party, I needed to uphold the traditional dress code). Meanwhile, Beegen didn’t even have ANYTHING on, but she remained “upbeet”!
That night, the emperor admired our garments and the empress couldn’t stop talking about how brilliantly shining they were. Being determined to solve our situation earlier, I had a flash of an idea. With the help of Beegan’s clothing knowledge, we worked together to make kimonos out of the wrapping paper we used on the Emperor’s gifts. Because we used enough fancy wrapping paper to make kimonos for a hundred eggplant pandas, it was the perfect material!
Meeting the royal couple was not the main goal of tonight, however. Secretly, I wanted to witness the brilliant lanterns of Grassy Windbet Hills. The residents here fly these spectacular lanterns that light up the entire city! They also cast the most whimsical silhouettes against the entire valley of hills. It was my chance to show off my talents in the biggest shadow puppet show ever! Soon enough, the hills were all filled with shadows of butterflies, bunnies, dogs and alligators as I taught all the kids how to make shadow puppets with their hands (and feet)! Everyone had a great time and I loved every second of it.
