This sketch was about the time I introduced human volleyball to Punnies… and invented an entirely new sport altogether!
After the last snow melted, I made an effort to gather some Punnies to play volleyball with me! I’d been wanting to introduce volleyball to my Punny Garden friends for a while, but the winter cold didn’t let that happen for the season. Figaro couldn’t come this time because he had errands to run, but I was able to invite Caramelle (a carrot Punny) and Oracole (a bespectacled orange Punny). “Today was going to be a great and positive day”, I thought to myself as I was in need of fun after spending a week cramming for my school’s year-end finals.
Oracole suggested that we go to Cloverspring Beach, which is known for its “bouncy vibes.” And as soon as we got there, I instantly noticed that the winds there were mild and gently swaying the beach’s blue Cloverspring trees back and forth. At the ocean’s horizon was the beautiful golden orange sun that gives warmth and life to all of Punny Garden’s land and creatures. A few Punnies were sailing out in the navy blue ocean while others were sun bathing out on the dry warm sand. I just couldn’t have asked for a nicer day out in the land of the Punnies.
We began by setting up the volleyball net and afterwards I took a bit of time to explain the rules of volleyball. Caramelle was by herself on one side (since she’s very tall), while Oracole and I were on the other. Both Caramelle and Oracole quickly learn the simple idea of volleyball, and before we knew it we were rallying the ball back and forth over the net like pros, all while cheering each other on. However, I soon learned why the beach got its name.
Oracole passed the ball to me, and my intention was to leaped upwards to hit it over. As I began to make my move, the sand withdrew from under my weight, then propelled me up a whole 20 feet high!! It was as if my shoes had super bouncy spring on its sole. It was totally unexpected to see everyone from a bird’s eye view all of a sudden! When I landed, I was so awed by the experience that I forgot completely about the game!
Oracole laughed as she saw the surprised look on my face and told me that if you focus good vibes on your feet as you jump, the sand will use it to make you leap super high. She was actually surprised that I was able to bounce on my very first try and without even knowing about the beach’s unique feature. The Punny Garden bouncing record, was set by a Banana Punny, with just over an amazing 65 feet high on a single bounce! She must have been an extremely super positive Punny! Skydivers with no parachute also used the Cloverspring Beach as a landing spot because no matter how high you fall from, it will absorb all the impacts and protect you from injuries.
We spent the rest of the day having fun bouncing super high. We no longer played against each other for points but rather played together to get the ball higher and higher towards the sky. Once, when I thought I jumped higher than anyone else could reach (about 40 feet), Caramelle came shooting up to my height in a matter of milliseconds with a : ) look on her face! She didn’t even move any arms; the ball just bounced off her body like a rubbery potato bounces off a hot sidewalk. “Hha haha ha”, I laughed out loud as I saw her do that. It seems the higher we went, the more excitement it caused. We were having so much fun that it didn’t take long before more Punnies came to join our game of Bouncy Spring Volleyball.
